According to Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime, the company has sold over 400,000 Wii U consoles within its first week of sales. To compare, the original Wii sold just 300,000 units in its first week of sales, due largely to the fact that the supply was nowhere near the absurd demand for that platform.
It's nice to see that Nintendo has almost learned their lesson when it comes to being prepared for a new console launch.

"Wii U is essentially sold out of retail and we are doing our best to continually replenish stock," Fils-Aime said. "Retailers are also doing their best to get the product to store shelves. But as soon as product hits retail, they're selling out immediately."
