Square Enix to Develop Next Hitman Game Instead of IO

Though the latest Hitman game just came out, Square Enix is already looking towards the future of the franchise. In a first for the series, IO Interactive will not be the main developer of the game, instead giving their blessing to Square Enix to develop the next game.

Square Enix Montreal will be the specific studio tasked with bringing everyone's favorite bald headed killer to life. IO's Tore Blystad had a few words to say about this move.
"It’s like with Treyarch and Infinity Ward. You have an IP that has been developed. They will feed off each other, as well as somethings that stand out. I think with these big franchises it takes a long time to develop just one game. If you can, work a little bit in parallel at least and help each other out.

"We’ve been talking about these similarities to some of the big movie franchise like Aliens, where everyone’s doing it their own way. Every time someone gets their hands on a franchise they do something different. So rather than doing the same thing again you get another take on the character from a fresh perspective."

Don't worry too much, however. Blystad said that the team at IOwill be keeping a close eye on their baby while it's in development at Square Enix Montreal. They hope to ensure that the gameplay mechanics don't deviate too much from the previous games. Plus, many of the team at the Montreal studio do come from IO and have worked on previous Hitman games already.

We at TGN... Rather, I am working on a review for Hitman: Absolution. Look for that to go up in the coming days.
