Minecraft Surpasses 8 Million Purchases on the PC and Mac

A huge milestone was hit for the team at Mojang today as Minecraft surpassed 8 million purchases since its release. As the screenshot shows, over 11,000 people picked the game up in the past day alone.

To put that into perspective, it has now sold more copies than Myst, all of Guild Wars including the expansion packs, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Diablo II, and countless others. It is now only about 1.3 million copies behind Half-Life and 2 million copies behind The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Keep in mind that this is only for the PC and Mac version of Minecraft. At last check (October 1, 2012), the Xbox 360 version of the game has sold 4 million copies. Combine those sales figures and you're looking at 12 million copies of the game sold, or about as many copies that are believe to have been sold of Half-Life 2 on the PC.

I'm glad I bought it when it was cheap. Probably the best $15 I have spent on a game ever.
