Hawken Gunning for 10 Million Players

The upcoming free-to-play mech combat game, Hawken, is aiming for over 10 million players after its launch. That is 10,000,000 for those who dislike words.

This comes after the firm behind the game was given an additional $18 million in funding. Developed by Adhesive, the F2P title is slated for release on December 12.

Adhesive Co-Founder and Creative Director, Khang Le:

"We're our own publisher and our own developer - we answer to nobody except the consumer.

"There is no middle man. It’s great. The free-to-play model solves piracy, and while there’s a stigma around it in some quarters, that is changing.

"We’ve spent a long time polishing the game and building it to be very satisfying from the off. Free means you can start small but get very big - just look at Minecraft."

There is a second closed beta event for Hawken starting on November 8. Check out the Hawken website to see how you can participate. Those in the previous tests are guaranteed a spot in the upcoming beta tests.

This game looks promising. Please god don't let it be a let down.

No open beta AFAIK, but it's generally easy-ish to get into the closed beta. They give them out through Facebook, Twitter, etc.

50K Hawken beta keys available at Gamefly's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GameFlyDigitalGames

On the flip side, it requires you "like" their page (but you can always revert that afterwards).

I was in the beta and I didn't really enjoy the experience. I felt like there was something extremely important lacking, but I couldn't tell what it was.

The beta was just a huge team deathmatch and the overall feeling wasn't that different than a standard FPS.
