No, this isn't a joke. On October 26, Ubisoft and Mojang are set to deliver a "Minecraft inspired Far Cry 3 universe" for free to all players on the PC. This pack will let you run around Minecraft "through the warped lens of Far Cry 3."
There will be "modifications" made to all aspects of the game, including the environment, tools, and weapons. It will also let you "discover key Far Cry 3 locations and characters." There are also slated to be over 50 Easter Eggs hidden throughout the map.
This sounds like at the very least, a custom made map and skin pack. It will be really interesting to see if there are actual, big changes made to Minecraft just for this cross-over. Interestingly, they released this news alongside some screenshots showing Minecraft within the Far Cry 3 world. Though, these shots could just be mock-ups for promotional purposes and certainly nothing to do with an extension of this cross-over with Minecraft stuff in Far Cry 3.
