Rumor: Half-Life 3 to be Open-world and Releasing After 2013

We just couldn't go a full month without there being some sort of rumor surrounding Half-Life 3, could we? A French site, Journaldugamer, is reporting that they have some of the first details on the long-awaited sequel.

The report, as translated by OXM, says that the game will be open-world with quests and NPCs that will provide missions for you to carry out. The development has been "very chaotic" with a number of "total revisions" taking place.

It continues on to say that the game will release "after 2013", which suggests it may be a next-generation title for consoles (along with a PC release, of course).

The "after 2013" release window seems entirely plausible given how the game isn't actually announced yet, as does the chaotic development for the game. What isn't entirely believable is the fact that it would be an open-world title. The Half-Life series has always been a fairly linear experience, and the move to an open-world style doesn't seem like something Valve would do to an established series. Stranger things have happened, though.

This is just the latest rumor, which is probably false, in a long line of Half-Life 3 related rumors. Shame on us if we forget the Gamescom 2012 rumor, or the leak of the Half-Life 2: Episode 3 concept art, or just about anything else Half-Life 3 related we've covered in the past.
