Let's face it, the idea behind Steam Greenlight is a fantastic one! It's a service that allows developers and publishers to get their indie titles a bit of face time while users vote on which games they would like to see added to Steam.
The problem here, was that pretty much anybody would submit whatever they wanted to and it was up to Valve to remove obvious spam submissions and other garbage that shouldn't have been there in the first place. That's about to change as Valve is implementing a $100 submission fee to get their submission added to Steam Greenlight.
There may be some who are going to say that this is just an attempt by Valve to cash in on the interest of these studios, and blah blah blah. Well, you're wrong. The $100 fee will go directly to the Child's Play charity.
That sounds like the best possible approach anybody could have taken with this. Feel free to voice your opinions and feedback on the official Steam Greenlight group page.

The first update is a $100 fee for someone to post to Steam Greenlight. The proceeds will be donated to Child’s Play. We have no interest in making money from this, but we do need to cut down the noise in the system. (Note: Anyone who has already posted a submission to Greenlight will not have to retroactively pay for any existing submissions, but will need to do so for any future submissions.)
The second part of this update is to improve your window into Greenlight and help you find “your kind” of games. The next time you visit Steam Greenlight you’ll be shown a smaller, manageable list of games that you haven’t rated. This view is a mix of popular games and new games to Greenlight.
