Mechromancer Class Arrives in October for Borderlands 2

The Mechromancer class for Borderlands 2 will be released on October 16. Those who pre-order the game will get this piece of DLC for free, but if you do not pre-order you can pick it up for $10 (USD).

This DLC is not included in the $30 season pass being offered for Borderlands 2. During its panel at PAX Prime 2012, Gearbox was eager to show off the various modes that players can utilize with the class. One mode allows players to stack abilities in combination with her robot buddy. The other provides automated assists, you know, for the "less skilled" players out there.

The Best Friends Forever skill tree—a "noobish-friendly" skill tree as described to me by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford—lets players who aren't great at first-person shooters be of some assistance in cooperative play. The BFF tree essentially sacrifices damage for aim assists. So a missed shot can reflect and hit an enemy 50% of the time. Deathtrap, the Mechromancer's robot, will be more automated, seeking out enemies to deal area of effect damage as well as status effect damage on enemies. On the BFF mode, Borderlands 2 handles the prioritizing of targets rather than asking you to do so.

Obviously, the set of skills that lets you stack abilities will be for the super pro gamers out there.

Even though I did pre order I might just wait to play the game until the DLC comes out because it seems a lot cooler than the other classes. I only played the first one once so it's unlikely i'll go back and do it twice for this one just for another character with the same story.
