Black Ops 2 PC System Requirements Revealed, Sorry XP Owners

The system requirements for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 were announced via the Call of Duty website the other day. Unfortunately for Windows XP owners, the new game will not be supported on your operating system as the engine has been updated to include various DirectX 11 features.

OS: Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7
    CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E8200 2.66 GHz or AMD Phenom X3 8750 2.4 GHz
Memory: 2GB for 32-bit OS or 4GB for 64-bit OS
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 8800GT 512 MB or ATI Radeon HD 3870 512 MB

In addition to these confirmed requirements for the game, the DirectX 11 usage plays into their updated game engine. They claim that performance is better compared to the first Black Ops given the DirectX 11 renderpath.

PC gamers will also get "enhanced lighting, shadows, antialiasing, bloom, depth of field, ambient occlusion, and other enhanced effects" that are still being worked on. Also, the game can "run at higher resolutions and higher framerates on the PC."

Can we get someone that actually keeps up with COD news? There are several news items that have been completely ignored, Nuketown Zombie map and the PC Digital Deluxe Edition for a few. This use to be the happening place for news and info...what happened?

School/work/life. Easier for me since I'm out of school, job market sucks ass despite how many resumes I've sent out, and there isn't much in the way of news as everyone would like because I try to still have as much of a life outside of here as I can.

There isn't any PC footage out yet, correct? All we have seen is crappy 720p console footage. I'm really curious to see how it looks in 1080 60FPS after they have added the DX11 features.

Actually the funny thing is, if its just a conversion from DX9 to DX11 we should see as much as a 20% increase in performance, that is if it is just stock DX9 graphics ported to DX11. You can try it out on a lot of games that have DX11 Beta options like Star Trek Online, the bump in FPS is noticeable. Now if they start piling on the FX then performance is going to drop unless you have some of the new cards then can do some of the adaptive tricks (less detail for far away objects and adaptive Vsync).

My one issue is, this game is coming to the Xbox which for all intent and purpose is still DX9 despite claiming that it is DX10/11 capable. So why isn't it going to be playable in Windows XP?

Windows xp doesn't have any DX11 support. There is going to be no DX9 option so XP is left out in the cold.

Reflect on the engine and its technology, tell me what they changed and I will tell you its just cosmetic stuff that can be turned off when running in XP. I'm not complaining DX9 running natively or translated to DX10/11 will only benefit me in Windows 7 or 8 or whatever I'll be running when BO2 comes out. In most games now that are switching to DX10 or higher, you can simply switch from DX9, then effects are added that did not exist under DX10/11. When you play the game in DX9, those effects are gone. DX10 and higher is a lot more efficient, but just like with a lot of DX9 games which are backward compatible to DX8. Then again, its only about 10 to 15% of the market they are excluding.
