Don't call it Metal Gear Solid 5 because Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is a prequel to Metal Gear Solid 5. At least, that's what Kojima has stated during today's PAX Prime 2012 event.
Big Boss returns in Ground Zeroes where the world is his playground. Literally, the world. You can call in helicopters to fly around the world, going to various countries to take on missions. A potential main protagonist was also introduced. A man in a black hat with a disfigured face and is presumably part of a group called XOF. His squad of soldiers is billed as "an army without a nation."
All footage is from Kojima's long kept secret Fox Engine. It will be used on future Konami titles such as future Silent Hill games. It was shown running on PC hardware that is equivalent to current generation consoles (Xbox 360, PS3, PC). It can be scaled to be used on the next-generation consoles as well.
Platforms for Ground Zeroes has not yet been announced.
