One of the longest running game magazines is about to close up shop for good. Nintendo Power is slated to cease operations after 24 years of informing young minds everywhere of how they can get the most from their Nintendo products.
Coming on in the Summer of 1988 as an offshoot from the old Nintendo Fun Club newsletter, the magazine was run by Nintendo from 1989 until 2007 when it began to outsource the magazine to Future Publishing. Unfortunately, it seems as though Nintendo was "difficult to work with" and was "uninterested in renewing that contract or in taking part in a number of digital initiatives that Future saw as necessary for the long-term health of the brand."
Staff members were reportedly informed of the magazine's fate last week. Many staff members are being pulled into other Future ventures such as GamesRadar and MacLife. Chriss Hoffman, Nintendo Power's Senior Editor has made a few Tweets offering his thanks to the fans and stating that there may be an official announcement soon.
He also promises to "make the last issues memorable".
