Layoffs Hit OnLive as Future of the Company Remains in Question

It is being reported by Mashable that most of the staff for OnLive has been laid off. According to their sources, the company "called an all hands meeting at 10AM PDT, at which the entire staff was fired. Some staffers may be rehired as the company transitions to its next unknown iteration."

Naturally, employees are blaming the failure of the company on the company's CEO who "refused to sell the company 'many times'." It is speculated that the company will make a push towards purely intellectual property play.

Brian Jacquet from Online issued a statement saying, "no comment on the news other than to say, the OnLive service is not shutting down." A statement issued to Facebook from Brian Fargo claims that "a new company will be formed" and will continue with "current initiatives in place."

Some sources report that this is an issue of the company filing for bankruptcy, while Michael Pachter tweeted that he feels as though funding was "not an issue".

For now, the OnLive service continues to operate, but that may not be the case in the near future.

Re: Layoffs Hit OnLive as Future of the Company Remains in Question

Damn, I tried but I found it awful. Not only because I do not like the overall idea of cloud gaming but because their stream was so god damn bad. And they blamed my internet. Sometimes the program wouldn't let itself load because my internet connection was "too bad", really? I can watch 720p streams without an issue, watch 1080p videos without having to wait and without having loading issues, but Onlive could only stream to me at 640x480? And as I said before, that's when it would load, because most of the time my "Bad internet connection" would not let that happen.
