Battlefield 4 to Retain Modern Setting

Forget about those pipe dreams of 2142 or 2143 as a setting for Battlefield 4. DICE's General Manager, Karl Magnus Troedsson, today revealed that the game will stick to its modern day setting.

"We still want to stay in this genre, the modern day as it is. We feel this is a place we can be and continue with the series. Battlefield 4 can live in this space and be very successful."

Additionally, what exactly was the reason for heading into Battlefield 4 instead of, say, bringing out Battlefield: Bad Company 3 first instead?

"There's a lot of things inspiring us as to how the franchise will move on. Everything from fans' feedback, to market research and, of course, what we want to build ourselves. It's not just one single thing," said Troedsson, continuing with a hint of sarcasm. "And, yes, I know Battlefield 4 is probably the most creative name we ever could come up with. I can't comment any more on that game because it's all secret."

"That doesn't mean there might not be a Bad Company game again in the future."

I hope they bring some new and fresh things to the table. Big innovations like the destruction or small things like the vault animation, that's the sort of stuff they need to keep adding in my opinion. I really hope it's not just another battlefield 3 with tweaked graphics, a new story, new weapons and maps.

The coming DLC's will add boatloads of content maps/gamemodes/guns/vehicles/whatnot to bf3, it's hard to imagine anything what battlefield haven't done in the "modern" setting.

Nah i will wait to hear more about this but for the time being my cencentration is put towards the upcoming dlcs.

I want fully descructable invironments. I want debris all over the place. Windmills falling down on top of buildings. I want to blow up Cubra Dam and destroy the cranes on Shonghua Stalemate.Ohh yeah!!!!

I'm still waiting for more infos but that doesn't bode well, it should have been 2143.

I think it is a wise choice with continuing the series with a modern setting, but maybe have tid-bits of a futuristic feel to it. In my opinion, it doesn't really matter if the setting is a modern one or a futuristic one, as long as they can differentiate it from Battlefield 3's current feel, to make it stand out more. That, is the real test, and I think DICE will definitely not disappoint their fans with any future titles that are under their sleeves.

Well this sucks, i want a different game e.g. 2143, not Battlefield 3 Number 2.
