Bad news for those looking to join in on PlanetSide 2 as it seems the beta for the game was delayed to give the team more time for polish before the public gets their hands on it.
Slated to begin early this week, the beta will now be held either at the end of this week or possibly early next week. The news was broke via John Smedley's Twitter, the President of Sony Online Entertainment.
At present, a closed technical beta is underway for a select number of individuals. Those in said beta are currently under an NDA and are not allowed to talk about the game in any capacity just yet.

Had planned for today or tomorrow but we have some stuff we need to make sure is awesome
