Despite rumors last week that said Final Fantasy Versus XIII was canned, Square Enix's CEO announced today that the game has not been cancelled. Last week, Kotaku jumped the gun saying some "unnamed sources" told them Versus XIII was canned but Square Enix would not announce the cancellation due to stock price fears.
Yoichi Wada went on record today, via Twitter of course, to say that the game is still in development.
In development since 2006, many fans are hoping that the September reveal of some Final Fantasy XIII project will be a release date or new media for Versus XIII. Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a more action oriented title set in the Final Fantasy XIII universe. It was originally announced back in 2006 as part of the three game Fabula Nova Crystallis series. Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Type-0 were the two other titles, both of which have been released already.
