Battlefield 4 Beta Arrives Next Fall with Pre-Order of Medal of Honor Warfighter LE

So much for both EA and DICE denying all of those pesky rumors. It was just announced that those who pre-order Medal of Honor Warfighter Limited Edition before October 23, 2012 will be granted access to the Battlefield 4 beta currently slated for Fall 2013.

“Though Battlefield and Medal of Honor Warfighter each offer players a completely unique experience, they are united by their underlying technology base – Frostbite. These are two of the hottest shooters, coming together to deliver a one-two punch of action, intensity and shooter entertainment”

To those wondering, the Limited Edition of Medal of Honor Warfighter is only $59.99 (USD) and is the cheapest of the two offerings. The other offering being the Deluxe Edition at $69.99.

The world literally knows nothing about Battlefield 4, there wasn't even an official announcement about the game, and yet here we are staring down the barrel of another beta tie-in with a Medal of Honor release.

I love the statement on the Battlefield website about how this won't effect BF3 and that they will continue to develop content when we were pretty much told with Premium this "is what your going to get and that's it". Something tells me this BF4 Beta thing really wasn't suppose to be announced for some time from now close to MOH release closer to the end of BF3 content cycle. I hate using the term content cycle, but that is what we now have in both COD and BF/MOH. Less with the game, more over the year after release until the next title in the cycle comes out.

Except it's not a CoD thing or a year after year release.

        From Reddit:

The time between Bad Company 1 and 2 was about 21 months. (BF1943 was also developed and released in this time)
The time between Bad Company 2 and BF3 was about 19 months. (BC2 Vietnam, a bunch of updates, were released in this time)
The time between BF3 and the "Fall 2013" release date will be 23-25 months. (And the announced maps will have all come out)

Ugh... Is there a way we can turn off what threads friends are looking at on battlelog? I'm going to avoid pretty much anything battlefield related except on this site for quite a while to avoid giving myself a hernia from all the elitism, alarm-ism, whining and bitching about this news... I can't take it anymore...

Sure, the CoD franchise releases a game every year. But truthfully, it takes 2 years for each developer to make a game. Just like how long it takes for DICE to make a BF game and Danger Close to make a MoH game.

The MoH series and BF series are different franchises, and they are different types of games (you could argue MW and BO are different types of games too), but EA is releasing each one in alternating years, and the studios are taking 2 years to develop each game. That is exactly the same as the CoD cycle. It's pretty obvious that EA is matching what Activision is doing, albeit with two different franchises instead of one franchise with two series.

With all that said, I'm not exactly opposed to this. As I mentioned, BF is a different game from MoH, so it won't feel like you are playing the same game year after year. And two years is a good turnover, assuming there are plenty of innovations. But there is no denying that EA is putting BF/MoH into a MW/BO-like cycle.

Except your comparison of the CoD games is based purely on sequential releases in their respective storylines. Where as the comparison made between Battlefield releases compares just the latest releases after the previous releases. There's a difference.

If you compared the CoD releases the same way the Battlefield releases are compared then it would be like this.

The time between CoD4 and WaW was 12 months.
The time between WaW and MW2 was 12 months.
The time between MW2 and BO was 12 months.

But I see what you're getting at though, since it is a different developer for every other game, I don't really think that's what people are complaining about with this per se. For whatever reason, people feel like BF3 just came out and BF4's beta starting next Fall would be too soon of a release, despite the time stretches between the last BF game and BF3.

That's also not to say that BF4 is even going to be out in 2013. It's only the beta right now.

I just hope its something like 2142, accepts mods (which I doubt) and bigger than 64 players.

Two years is perfectly acceptable for development time IMO.

Maybe I interpreted what everyone was complaining about wrong. I thought they were upset that they were releasing BF games and MoH games in alternating years, but now thinking about it, you are probably right. I would understand the complaining if the beta was coming out this fall, but it is next fall. That's over a year away.

Zips, you misunderstood me, I meant that on the Battlefield website they made a statements, that even with Battlefield 4 in development that they wouldn't stop supporting and developing new content for Battlefield 3 when in fact we were already told everything that will be coming for Battlefield 3 with Premium. After the last content drop that is it, maybe some patches, but from Close quarters there was about 9 more months of content and then it ends (Armored Kill and the other two in three month increments). And its not like the never backed out on a promise or delayed something game saving until after the game was long dead (BF2142 patches seem to come to mind).

There are very few games that still receive support years after their release. In fact, many games are lucky to get anything even a mere year after release.

Right now, that is a huge assumption there that they will not support BF3 in any capacity after BF4 is released, given how the beta isn't even out for another year+ for Battlefield 4. That leaves over two years of support, DLC, and patches that are slated to be released and will be released for Battlefield 3. That's actually pretty damn good all things considered.

Even still, if they said that they're still supporting BF3 while BF4 is in development, it could stand to reason that they are making good on that promise already. You have to figure that BF4 has been in development now for probably a few months already, if not longer and yet BF3 is still getting a steady stream of content/support as noted.

Who cares? The "community" is wrong in most the things they are talking about and spout more garbage and half truths and more interested in trolling than actually talk like a human being about the game.

I havent been on the battlelog forums, but I am sure its more about making a "true" BF2.5 with VoIP and no battlelog or Origin. Same ole spewing since before alpha release.

Yeah true. I do seriously hope they ban that guy who has the Hitler baby avatar. I've said it before, they should just ban people (from the forums only, not from the game. it would be deliciously ironic, and banning them from the game is too serious for non hackers, and what they would want) from the forums who are just there to make trouble.
