Dark Souls Pre-Order Hits Steam and Still Includes Games for Windows Live

Despite some statements made months ago, it seems as though Games for Windows Live will live on in Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition. Pre-orders for the game are now available through Steam for $39.99 (USD), which is about $10 more than the framerate you might experience.

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will include an untold chapter in the world of Lordran where the player must stop the spread of darkness at all costs by facing and defeating the Dark Knight Artorias.
New Bosses – Including Artorias of Abyss, Chimera of Tomb, and more
PVP Online Matchmaking System – Quick matching for co-op or PVP
New Areas – Including Oolacile Tomb, Old Ruins and more
New Enemies – Including Abyss Guard, Chained Prisoner and more
New NPCs – Including Hawkeye Gough and more
New Weapons and Armor – Equip some from the new bosses, enemies, and NPCs

If you'd like to pre-order the game through Steam ahead of its August 24, 2012 release date, feel free to click here.

I think you missed the link in the OP. Great on consoles, sure but PC... heh.

I love Demon's & Dark Souls but I can only agree that it's really not what you should expect from a PC release, it's a pure port with just a DLC to sugar the pill. And the worse is they will probably think PC players don't like this kind of game because it didn't sell while the reason is because of a lazy port+GFWL.

one thing I admire is that they did warn us. They at least owned up about their lack of PC experience. I do hope one day that japan will embrace the PC platform more in the future. Imagine if one day the PC became the dominant gaming system in Japan... doubt it though.

Well it they didn't warn PC players there would have been a shitstorm when they saw it's exactly like the Xbox version, up to the 30fps max (hello Blightown lag). After that they would have been much more reluctant to buy another PC version.

As for Japan embracing PC, doubt it. In some decades maybe.

I mean they released a statement owning up to their lack of PC experience in development. They could have outsourced it, sure, but at least they didn't try to hide it after like some companies do. Its not great, but its a start. Maybe the next time they try they do better? Honour is something that I find is getting lost on plenty a' gamers.
