Building Battlefield's Largest Map Ever - Bandar Desert

The latest Battlefield blog update takes an in-depth look at what has gone into creating Bandar Desert, the largest map ever released in the history of the series. Inge Jøran Holberg, a designer at DICE, shows us the ropes on what is included in the 2,400 meters of Bandar Desert.

In Conquest Large, Bandar Desert is stretching as far as 1,900 meters from U.S. to Russian deployment, not counting the airstrip at the very end of the ground forces combat area. This is even longer than Fushe Pass from Battlefield 2. Bandar Desert is about as wide as it is long at the middle flags – it measures 1,900 meters from the mountain base furthest from the sea all the way to the beach at the south edge of the map.

As a comparison, Caspian Border is roughly 1,100 meters between the U.S. and Russian deployments — around 800 meters difference both in width and length. Should you count the distance between your spawned jet and the enemy spawned jet, you will end up with 2,400 meters on Bandar Desert. From the closest capturable flag to the furthest capturable flag, you are looking at around 1,200 meters. For Caspian Border, the equivalent distance is just about 400 meters.

Plenty more can be read on the official blog including how they came to the decision to go big (hint: Atacama Desert from BC2 had a role), and what the huge size means from a gameplay perspective.

Can't wait. I'm hoping for a forest map and a snow map too. The article said the maps were different visually, so I expect we won't see 4 desert maps.

I'm hoping for some Special forces stuff, like night maps, night vision, climbing ropes and slides (there would be some awesome gadgets to include in the different classes)

Maybe in another expansion? I would like to see some flashbangs, maybe have them replace the defib if unlocked

Nothing like large maps to help keep the frame rate down and enjoy non of it.

really? I expected the oposite from Close quarters maps. I was like: Damn, one of the benefits from these maps is that I'm probably going to get an fps boost since they are smaller! Nope, the framerate was about the same thing.
If they managed to give me as much fps in Ziba tower as I had in caspian border then I have faith in them being able to do the same in this expansion.
Of course any map with 64 players changes everything, but I enjoy much more playing in 64 sized maps where the player limit is 32 because it allows for tactical gameplay
