Assuming the stats from Xfire are reliable to any degree, it seems as though League of Legends has surpassed World of Warcraft has the most played PC game in the world. Granted, not that many people use Xfire any more but for those that do, the offering from Riot Games has surpassed WoW in North America and Europe and is seeing a huge rise in popularity in Korea.
Diablo III is also quite high on the list, registering 172 million hours in just 45 days. Despite declining numbers, it is still assumed that Diablo III's usage will surpass World of Warcraft within the next year.
The figures seen in the list below were compiled over a period beginning July 1, 2011 and running until June 30, 2012.

Given the decline in Xfire use in recent years, I'm quite curious to see how the figures would change, if at all, if every gamer actually used Xfire to calculate play time.

According to a new list provided by DFC Intelligence in conjunction with Xfire, League of Legends gamers logged nearly 1.3 billion hours of gameplay. In second place was World of Warcraft, which despite some usage declines, still registered more than 600 million hours of gameplay (not including Asia).
“The fact that online games such League of Legends eclipsed more than a billion hours of online game time in a year is simply incredible and a testament to the fundamental shift currently sweeping through the games industry. By comparison, Bungie recently announced that the Halo franchise surpassed two billion hours of online play, but that’s over a period of seven years.” said David Cole, CEO of DFC Intelligence.
