    Article: Valve Releases Source Filmmaker

In conjunction with the release of Meet the Pyro, Valve has finally released the Source Filmmaker! At long last, you too can create high quality animated short films like those created by Valve in the "Meet the" line of videos.

The SFM is a storytelling tool Valve developed inside the Source Engine to create all its animated short films, including those in the "Meet the Team" series of Team Fortress 2 shorts. The SFM condenses the production pipeline of an animation studio down onto a single gaming PC.

"The goal of the SFM was to develop a story telling tool that allowed us to create computer animated movies more efficiently, and with greater creative freedom," said Bay Raitt, designer at Valve. "Over the past five years, we've produced more than 50 animated shorts with the SFM. The Source Filmmaker will allow our community to create their own movies in Team Fortress 2 and in their own Source SDK-created mods."

Right now, the Source Filmmaker is in a closed beta. It will be made available to everyone later this year for free through Steam. More information can be found at the Source Filmmaker website.

This is an incredible tool, and I cannot believe that it's for free.. that is just insane on Valve's part. And yes, it'll work on all Source games. I can definitely see myself making a Left 4 Dead short film. So happy..

TF2 only at first, more games added later. Not sure if "later" is later in the beta or later after final release.
