$99 Xbox 360 Deal will Cost You Over $450

Microsoft has revealed an expansion of their $99 Xbox 360 bundle deal. This cheap entry into the world of the Xbox 360 can now be found at Gamestop and Best Buy locations. It includes a 4GB Xbox 360 with Kinect, but there is a catch.

The catch is that in order to purchase the bundle at that low price, you have to agree to a two-year contract. 24 months of paying $14.99 (USD) on top of the $99 up front cost. This means that with everything totaled up, you really end up spending almost $460 for a $99 console.

Compare that to simply purchasing a 4GB Xbox 360 Kinect bundle at $299 (without this contract deal) and spending $100 for 24-months of Xbox Live Gold ($50/year) on your own volition. That is just $399.

So yes, it seems as though this cheap console deal isn't exactly all it's cracked up to be.

It's also worth noting that the 4GB Xbox is quite limited itself! You can't install games to it (from the DVD), which includes stuff like the BF3 HD textures. Moreover, you can usually get XBL for pretty cheap with promotions. For the last six months I've been doing 2 months for $2 (the ad pops up every time my subscription expires).

How is this not a bad idea for someone who truly cant afford an xbox 360? It would come out about the same if you were to purchase this on a credit card and take 2 years to pay it off.

People should stop living by this philosophy of buying things that you do not have the money to buy. If you can't afford it you simply do not buy it, you save till you have the money and THEN you buy it. It's because of people wasting money they don't have that many countries are having lots of problems in their economy.

I know, let's then spend more money and be forced into a two year "contract" no matter what. We'll end up paying far more in the long run, but whatever so long as we can save a small amount up front!

Let's not even factor in how XBL Gold is optional, meaning you could technically end up spending $160 more than if you just bought it outright.

jimykx also has it right: People who can't afford it right out the box shouldn't even think about getting this or anything, especially if you're that derptastic with money that $160 in added expenses is somehow a good thing.

As I understand it, it was more like: Buy now, only pay interest on the loan, and then hope that inflation will take care of the rest.
But if that fails, you now have some old stuff that you still owe the full price on.
