Diablo III - Low, Insulting Metacritic User Reviews Strike Again

If there's one thing you can always count on, it's the fact that when a high-profile game is released that experiences any sort of launch day issues, the Metacritic userbase will be sure to act like a bunch of sperging morons in their reviews. This time, their sights are set firmly on Diablo III.

Stay classy gaming communities of the world. Stay classy.

Chief amongst their complaints are the fact that you must always be connected to the Internet to play, the lack of an actual single-player component (ties into the always-on DRM), and one special snowflake. That special snowflake says that Diablo III is a "huge letdown for Diablo series fans." He says that it's just a "Diablo clone with original trademark." Diablo III is a just a Diablo clone, eh? Yeah, about that...

Of course there are others who say that the graphics look terrible, people disliking the lack of skill points to distribute, etc etc etc. There isn't a big enough in the world to convey how I feel about some of these mentally draining "reviews" that flat out give the game a "zero" score.

The lack of "fairness" in these reviews is what really gets me. As it stands, most of these reviews are just knee-jerk reactions to being unable to log in on the game's launch day. Go figure.

Sadly, I must agree with some of these reviews. I'm a big Diablo fan and to me, Diablo 3 was a bit of a let down. Some of the points that the users claim are in fact true and ridiculous on Blizzard's part. i.e. Single player, DRM, auction house bullshittery, D1 clone (certain levels, enemies, weapons, etc.), graphics is also a big issue, and loads more. You see, to me, having waited 10 - 12 years for the bloody game to come out had me hyped up real good, so in the end, Diablo 3 is an okay game, not super-fantastic-happy-time. My opinion.

This is the new era of gaming. Make a sequal and get criticised for not bringing something new to the table. Bring something new to the table and get criticised for not doing something new or innovating. I see dark days ahead in gaming where developers and publishers no longer talk to the communities. They will be going back to releasing whatever and you either buy it or dont.

So you would also give Diablo III a score of zero as well then, is that what you're saying?

That there is absolutely nothing at all enjoyable about the game? It has the worst visuals, audio, gameplay in the entire history of video games?

          Yes!!! Worst Game Ever!!!1!

Seriously, these scores are subjective. To some the lack of offline singleplayer may indeed make the game worthless. Just like some may give it a 10 just for being a Blizzard game.
Personally, I dont think I will be getting it. I enjoyed the original Diablos back in Ye Olde Days, but I lost interest in Torchlight halfway through, and that was a good game too.

Calm yourself, I wouldn't give it a zero.. do I look like a COD-douche to you? If I were to score it, I'd give it a hard 7, and like I said, it's an okay game, not a great one. I can look past the weapons, graphics, auction house and what have you issues, but an offline mode was of big importance to me. Having that taken away, defeats the purpose of me enjoying a nice break with my laptop and its Diablo 3, where ever I may be.

I am calm, just asking those questions to prove a point, which you did. You said you can see their point but you seem to also have a head on your shoulders that can understand these things are issues that can and will be fixed. You also understood going into the purchase of the game that it was going to be an always-on DRM scheme (frankly, anybody who didn't know this has nobody to blame but themselves. You don't blindly purchase a game, that's just stupid.). You also realize that despite these issues the game is still awesome for a variety of reasons.

These guys go on to Metacritic for just about any big release and if there's even the slightest thing wrong they hop onto their bandwagon of idiocy and throttle the hell out of that "0" score. They ignore everything positive about a game and focus solely on the one thing that pisses them off. This is why most people cannot and should not review games. Also the fact that people choose only to review a game as it compares to its predecessor. That should not be the sole factor in any review for any reason, no matter what series the game stems from.

Same thing can be said about the people dishing out 10/10's there. They are no better. There is no completely horrible game. There is no completely perfect game. This is also the reason I do not trust any single review site. If there's a game I cannot review for myself, chances are I will look at a handful of reviews from a random selection of sites to see a general overview.
