EA Backpedals on Rock Band for iOS Death

EA must have been feeling the wrath of a many gamer scorned earlier today because they are backpedaling hard on their decision to pull the plug on Rock Band for the iOS.

Earlier today, we reported on how all Rock Band iOS users received a message stating that their game would no longer be playable after May 31. Afterwards, EA even went so far as to create a support page for this message that essentially confirmed that yes, it was real and yes, they had no legitimate reason as to why they were going to pull the plug in the first place.

EA is now claiming that the message that went out was "sent in error."

"Rock Band for iOS will remain live - the in-app message users received yesterday was sent in error," the company said in a statement. "We apologize for the confusion this caused. We're working to clarify the issue that caused the error and will share additional information as soon as possible."

EA also originally had an FAQ page up that stated the following:

I've heard Rock Band will not be available after May 31. Is this true?
Yes, we will be suspending support of Rock Band after May 31 and focusing resources on other EA titles. We thank everyone for playing Rock Band, and we encourage you to explore some of the other exciting titles in our mobile line-up.

Can I still play Rock Band if I've already downloaded it?
The Rock Band servers will be live through May 31, 2012. If you have already downloaded the game, you can continue to play until then.

For something that was "sent in error" they sure went to a lot of effort to create an entirely separate FAQ page for it shortly after it was first discovered by users. The FAQ page has been removed following this "error."

Harmonix was not even aware that EA was originally going to kill off the iOS version of the game. As noted earlier, they were out of the loop on this one.

This is one of the big things about EA that have a lot of people distrusting them. When you purchase a game from them, they can pull the plug on it later and you are just out of luck. Its been going on for the consoles for a long time but this is the first I have heard them doing it with iOS games.Another reason I have made the decision to refuse to support any game that EA is involved in going forward. After DA2 and 'BF3', was avoided ME3 and boy am I sure glad I did now. Not another dime for EA from me EVER again.
