This is either horrible news for some of you or news that won't really matter one tiny bit. Joystiq found out from SimCity lead designer, Stone Librande, that the game will require a persistent internet connection through Origin to play.
This holds true even if you don't use Origin to purchase the game initially. It is supposedly a "necessity" given the game's focus on regional impact of your city, and the global economy that players have an influence over.
A bit of good news all around though as it was made known that you do not need to purchase the game through Origin. It will be made available through other digital distribution services, though specifics were not yet given.
