The GTX 680 Has Arrived from Nvidia

The latest Nvidia graphics card to hit the market, the GTX 680, is a powerhouse of a card. Right now, it's dethrowning AMD's latest top of the line offerings in terms of performance per dollar, offering up estimates of 10%-40% performance increases at prices that are lower than the AMD Radeon HD 7970. Yeah, that's pretty damn good if you ask me.

As you can see, improvements made to both the card and drivers allow for such features as the GPU Boost, TXAA, better PhysX utilization, and more.

Gamers told us they want GPUs that are cooler, quieter, and more power efficient. So we re-designed the architecture to do just that. The GeForce GTX 680 consumes less power than any flagship GPU since the GeForce 8800 Ultra, yet it outperforms every GPU we or anyone else have ever built.

We wanted to make gaming not just faster, but smoother. FXAA and the new TXAA does both. Games get super smooth edges without tanking the performance.

Adaptive V-Sync improves upon a feature that many gamers swear by. Now you can play with V-sync enabled and not worry about sudden dips in framerate.

It seems that Nvidia have learned some lessons this time. Good on them. Sadly I dont have money anymore and already bought a new old GPU (6970)

What exactly was wrong with Nvidia's previous offerings? AMD hasn't managed to keep hold of a top spot for any length of time for the previous 3 or so generations of cards. My 560Ti is rocking all kinds of stuff left and right still.

Didn´t AMD announce a while back that they would only focus on CPU´s for smartphones aso?
Or is it something I dreamt.
AMD has lost ground on CPU´s and GPU´s for a long time. It has been a while since the last fanwar.

Edit: In retrospect my previous comment did come off as a little condescending. I was being sincere, which is rare for me reagarding nvidia because there has always been something about them that I didn't trust that I could never put my finger on. though the current price I have been hearing for that much output has actually made me sorta want an nvidia card for the first time.

nVidia always had issues with their cards from time to time, and ATI was always the smooth sailor, plus they were always cheaper too. But even with this new card, I have my doubts, because like anything else, it's too good to be true. I'll admit that I'm an ATI fanboy, but if the GTX680 lives up to the hype, then I may be switching sides.

it will be sad if i moved from my GTX570 right now to this while this card looks really nice i think i am a fool to change now maybe in the next year or two ah whom i kidding by then there will be a new series of cards lmfao.

Do what I did: Got a high end-last year card for a cheaper price. Hence the 6970.

Well i would hate to change my 570 to a 680 o deem that move to be soon and stupid, i guess at msot i will wait a year and a half minimum 1 year wait :)

Every review places it showing that it either surpasses or blows the 7970 out of the water. Plus at $50-$100 cheaper... well, there you go.

Most every hardware site expects to see "Big Kepler" later this year. Nvidia usually starts things off with the biggest, most power hungry revision of a card before later shrinking it down and slowing stuff up. It looks like they did the opposite this time as the architecture has a lot in common with the 560TI lineup of cards. Meaning, a far more powerful lineup will arrive later this year, along with the entry level stuff, as usual. So if you wait that amount of time, you'll have a good selection to choose from.

Heat production and power usage are extremely important to me, glad to see a sensible approach being taken. I hope they continue towards adding the frame rate limiter into the control panel, i'm worried this "adaptive v-sync" will take the attention away, it's kind of ugly having to use a third party program to access the hidden limiter. Also the limiter doesn't seem to work on some games, that needs fixing.
