EA Responds to Mass Effect 3's Day One DLC Allegations

Game Informer was given a response from EA that responds to the allegations that the day one DLC for Mass Effect 3, From Ashes, was already fully included on the disc on the day of release.

"From Ashes is a 600 MB+ download with all new content, including the mission on Eden Prime, new dialogue options and conversations with Javik, new cinematics, the Prothean weapon, and new appearances for all squad members. All of the above content was completed while the main game was in certification and are not available on the disc.

"As stated previously, in order to seamlessly integrate Javik into the core campaign, certain framework elements and character models needed to be put on disc. We did something similar with Zaeed and Kasumi in Mass Effect 2."

I can understand there being certain frameworks already included but why include the character model on the disc? Or the character's recorded lines and interaction scenes? Was the 600MB download only for the initial mission to unlock the character the world already had in their possession? Was a $10 additional fee really necessary for any of this? Am I reading that right?

Why am I asking so many questions?

It's pointless to argue with EA, money hungry sluts. I try to stay away from them as much as I can, but sadly I had to purchase Battlefield 3 thru Origin, and it's going to be the only game thus far purchased from EA. I pray to the gods that Battlefield 4 is not a Origin exclusive game.

Re: EA Responds to Mass Effect 3's Day One DLC Allegations

This is going to happen to all major games.
The software industry has long wanted to move away from the traditional sale and instead push "Software as a service" where you pay a subscription to use the software.
As far as I recall, even Microsoft aired the idea of selling Windows that way.

While ME3 doesnt have an outright subscription, it is cleary the same idea where they want a constant revenue even after the intial sales are over. But to add insult to injury, they are still selling it at full price.

I am growing tired of the gaming industry.
