Thanks to the efforts of Meteor Entertainment, $10 million was raised to help fund the upcoming downloadable mech combat game, Hawken.
The major investors, at least according to VentureBeat, were Benchmark Capital and FirstMark Capital. These two are the same investors that helped out Riot Games with the development of League of Legends.
Hawken has certainly not gone ignored by the gaming community. Over 200,000 have already joined in on the closed beta with hundreds of thousands, if not millions more being interested. Hawken is slated to be released this December.

"We were tremendously thankful to be associated with Riot, but we viewed the market as much bigger than a single title," said Benchmark partner Mitch Lasky. "We think that $8 billion to $10 billion will migrate away from packaged goods games and free-to-play will be a lightning rod for those dollars."
