Global Sales of the PS Vita Hits 1.2 Million Units

Sony owes themselves a hearty pat on the pack for their rather successful launch of the PS Vita. Following its release in Europe, North America, Latin America, and the PAL regions, sales have surpassed 1.2 million units worldwide.

This figure more than doubles what was sold just in Japan during the Vita's launch in that region last year. As of February 19th, it is speculated that Sony sold just 578,812 units in Japan alone.

"The market has responded and there is clear demand for a mobile device capable of providing a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context," said SCE group president Andrew House in a statement.

"To sustain momentum, we're working closely with third-party developers and publishers to ensure the best games and franchises possible will be available on PS Vita, and our software line up for the remainder of 2012 will have something for everyone across the globe."

Sony confirmed that software sales have gone beyond 2 million units, a combined effort of both physical and digital media downloads.
