When the 10.8 update rolls out, called OS X Mountain Lion, Apple is poised to block any and all non-App Store games by default. If the game was downloaded through anywhere that isn't the App Store, expect to run into a few issues getting your games to run.
A new feature in the update called Gatekeeper automatically prevents users from running games that are from unregistered developers and that they've downloaded from the web -- similar to how iPhone or iPad owners can't install apps that don't originate from the App Store.
Users can choose to remove that restriction, increase security by allowing only Mac App Store programs to run, or load an app anyway by right-clicking on it and hitting open, but when they first install Mountain Lion, Gatekeeper will refuse uncertified, non-Mac App Store titles by default.

This restriction, at least for those unfamiliar with the above mentioned restriction will find that games they pick up from the web may no longer work. Furthermore, the impact this may have on Steam games has yet to be determined.
Developers can pay Apple $99 per year to become an approved developer and pick up an Apple Developer ID.
Gamekeeper sounds like it will be the Windows UAC of the OS X world, but you know, only applied to third-party games for some unknown and asinine reason.
