  • EA Updates Users on the PunkBuster Ban Issue, Hiring Anti-Cheat Admin

In an effort to slow the bleeding that is the gaping wound of false PunkBuster bans, EA and DICE are stepping up their game. The other day, a blog entry on Battlelog stated that they have discovered the root cause for all of these false positives.

They claim that the faults lies not with Battlefield 3 but with particular 3rd party services that utilize the PunkBuster service to help protect their servers. Well duh. A more recent update says that they are continuing to investigate users who are still reporting being falsely banned from some servers. They urge those players to try joining other PB enabled servers as the problem is only limited to a select number of servers still.

In related news, it seems as though DICE is looking to improve their anti-cheat work and are hiring an "Anti Cheat Administrator".

    Role overview:
In our continued effort to keep our games free from cheating, we are now looking for an Internet savvy administrator.

The administrator will compose an absolutely vital function to secure the online experience our games represent by actively be a part of the community and keep up to date with the current cheat exposure. The administrator will also own the analytical work with our player behavior data to keep our leaderboards and game play filled with fair play.

    Main responsibilities:
    • Analyze player behavior data and process reports from the public.
    • Work with account restrictions
    • Monitor and keep up to date with the cheating community online.
    • Actively share status reports with key stake holders
    • Be active with our community and monitor game play status
    • Take ownership of the cause and promote fair play both internally and externally

Yeah, I dont know about this. Sounds more like they are going to hire someone to look into and erase stats as data shows then "punish" those that stat pad.

Most seem to like the idea though and its a good face for EA, so the mission is accomplished regardless of the outcome.
