    Star Trek Online Goes Free-to-Play

After spending a few months in the growing world of pay to play MMORPG's, Perfect World Entertainment's and Cryptic Studios' Star Trek Online has changed over to the free to play model.

"We couldn't be more excited," said Jack Emmert, CEO, Cryptic Studios, Inc. "Updating Star Trek Online to the popular free-to-play model removes those barriers of entry that previously kept fans and casual gamers away. Anyone can download and play Star Trek Online at no cost. There's no better way to see how sitting in the captain's chair feels."

I haven't played Star Trek Online since the beta but I hear they have greatly improved upon all aspects of the game in the months since I was last on, including the often shunned ground combat. As with all F2P games, there are special incentives to fork over a few dollars for premium content by way of a virtual storefront.

There are space battles, various factions, ground battles, and tons more. Check out more and download the client from the Star Trek Online website.
