The closing of Ukrainian developer, GSC Game World, came rather abruptly as was originally reported by UkraNews (Russian; via Gamasutra).
The report states that the company responsible for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series has closed up shop and will pay wages to employees through February 2012. The report was reportedly confirmed by the studio director, Dmitri Bourkovski via Twitter. The Tweet, when translated reads, "Not PR. GSC closed."
The studio was working on the fourth entry in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 which was slated for release in 2012. GSC Game World opened in 1995, released Shadow of Chernobyl in 2007. In 2006 a number of GSC developers left to form 4A Games, the studio that developed Metro 2033.
