    Valve Forums Apparently Hacked

Last night, it looks as though the Steampowered forums were either hacked or one of the admins was the victim of a phishing attack. The forums are currently down for "maintenance" and have been down since last night. Where it starts to get interesting is the fact that some people, myself included, received an email from an @valvesoftware.com email address. The full email with censored headers is below.

The timing of the email lines up nicely with the time at which an admin and staff member at Valve showed visible signs of his account being compromised. Posts, announcements, and notices were made using his account that pushed all users to check out a known cheating community. The cheat community in question denies all involvement with the events taking place on the Steampowered forums.

It almost appears as though the Valve forums have suffered from the same sort of forum security flaw that came upon our site just about a month or two ago now. It is possible that is the case, but we cannot rule out the notion that jmccaskey's account was phished. There has been no official word from Valve on the matter.

LOL, this group is a bunch of stupid little kids. They are nothing more than script kiddies that use exploits to take down sites; nothing special.
