Resident Evil: Revelations to be First $50 3DS Title, But Why?

Capcom, in speaking with Kotaku, explained why they feel Resident Evil Revelations is worthy of the $50 (USD) price tag. Their reason might shock you.

"Resident Evil Revelations is an all new Resident Evil title with over 20 hours of gameplay, and cutscenes beautifully rendered in fear-inducing 3D," a Capcom spokesperson told me in an e-mailed statement. "A true console experience on a handheld device, Resident Evil Revelations is an epic title that offers both a single-player campaign for that classic survival horror gaming experience, and an additional RAID mode that can be played cooperatively or single player. To handle all of that data Resident Evil Revelations requires a 4GB cartridge, resulting in a higher price point."

So, it's not because of the game coming with some extra peripheral or being a two cartridge set, or including bonus items. No, it's because Capcom feels like it. Isn't this how the $60 price got started for console and PC titles? This is a very distressing trend.

Huh? "It requires a 4GB cartridge, resulting in a higher price point." How does that turn into "because they feel like it"?

Why exactly should they make the price higher for something that people have to buy separately from the game? Why aren't games that are multiple discs any more expensive from those on a single disc? It's purely because they "feel like it."
