Massive layoffs have hit Canadian developer Silicon Knights. In speaking with the Financial Post, the chief financial officer of Silicon Knights, Mike Mays, confirmed that the company has laid off 45 of its employees, leaving just under 40 employees still at the studio.
Silicon Knights has recently worked on X-Men: Destiny, Too Human, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, and more. This comes after a series of government funding initiatives for the developer totaling nearly $8 million.
“We just finished a project with [Activision Blizzard Inc.] that got completed,” he explained.
“We had another project lined up that had been in the works for months, which had been green-lit and at the final second, at the high corporate level, the project got canceled. We don’t know why. Probably something to do with the publisher on their side, but that resulted in us having too many people so we had to do a layoff.”
