The legal battle between Mojang (Minecraft, Scrolls) and ZeniMax (The Elder Scrolls, Fallout) simmered down a bit today after a Swedish court denied an interim injunction against Scrolls. Markus "notch" Persson made the announcement via Twitter earlier today.
Bethesda had wanted to use the interim injunction to prevent Mojang from using the "Scrolls" name while the main legal battle was being conducted. Mojang's Daniel Kaplan released an English version of the ruling and what it means in the short term.
The court noted that while the two games share similar names and some similar audiences, the two games were quite different from one another and are distributed differently from one another. ZeniMax has roughly three weeks to appeal the ruling made in the Swedish court system. Beyond that, the main legal battle between ZeniMax and Mojang continues to be waged.
We won the interim injunction! We can keep using the name "Scrolls". ZeniMax/Bethesda can still appeal the ruling, but I'm very happy.
