Project Zomboid is an indie title that was in development from a small team called The Indie Stone. It was an isometric, open world survival horror title in which you must try to survive as long as possible by actually scavenging for supplies. It was a great concept that had a lot of promise but the development ran into a few setbacks. The latest of which was the fact the flat where the two main developers live and work was allegedly broken into and two laptops stolen.
Yes, you guessed it, all of the latest code for Project Zomboid was on one laptop while the second one contained the backup of the first. No, they did not have any off site backups or backups on a cloud system. While this is bad enough on its own right, one of the developers in question then took to Twitter to explain what happened and how this theft will "probably finish us" and shut down the development of Project Zomboid. Meaning, that any person who paid the $7 or so pre-order fee is now without a promised finished product.
Either while drunk or otherwise, the developer then decided to lash out against the irate customers and even those who were giving their condolences at the unfortunate theft. One took to his Twitter (which he has since completely deleted) and the other off to Reddit, offering a number of "f**k you" remarks to other users.
Needless to say, a number of the Project Zomboid early adopters feel as though this is just all a farce, and are naturally outraged because they feel the team has essentially taken their money and ran with it. PayPal has apparently also frozen payments being made to the developer as a number of persons are reporting that they have not gotten what they paid for.
The lead writer for Project Zomboid issued the following statement on their website, but the actions of the other two developers has stolen the spotlight. The statement does say that Project Zomboid will be back and "stronger than ever." Let's just see if their fans believe it or not.
