Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand to be Released for Playstation First

    From the Playstation Blog:

This is Tommy Rydling from DICE, and I’ve got two exciting pieces of news to share with PlayStation.Blog readers. First, we are very happy to announce the dates for the eagerly awaited Battlefield 3 Open Beta on PSN. The Beta is open to all and will run from September 29th to October 10th. You can join it by simply going to the going the PlayStation Store and navigating to the “View All By Title” section, then selecting Battlefield 3 – within there you’ll see the download for the Battlefield 3 demo!

Alternatively, if you have redeemed a Medal of Honor: Limited Edition or Tier 1 Edition Online Pass, you will receive early access via a personal email invitation from DICE that includes 48-hour early access, which will allow you to start playing on September 27th.

The Open Beta is your chance to play Battlefield 3 early, try out our free social platform Battlelog, and give your valued feedback directly to those of us at DICE. You participating in the Battlefield 3 Open Beta means that you are not only helping us load test the servers, but more importantly, helping us fine-tune the final components of the multiplayer game.

During your time in the Open Beta, you’ll be playing on the map Operation Métro – a map you might have seen coverage of from E3, where we won the Best Multiplayer Game award.

But that’s not all for our PlayStation fans! You’ll be happy to know that beginning with our first expansion pack Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand (to be released later this year), all full-blown upcoming expansion packs for the game will appear one week early exclusively on PS3, brought to you by Sony!

So much for the PC being the lead platform.

By releasing a single expansion pack first on a platform that gets the short end of the stick outside of japan more times than PC versions even...?

Not only after having 80% or so of the pre-release videos and alpha on PC exclusively... Personally I don't think Dice are showing any colours at all.

No it's just immature gamers showing their true colours, by having no patience and grandstanding about waiting 1 week. Talk about a first world problem.

They are throwing a big bone to PC gaming these last few months, bucking the trend and making a game that's CLEARLY PC lead platform, just go look and Thunder run, or Caspian border in 1080p, then go look at the PS3 Co-op trailer, or Operation Guillotine on the 360. They are pushing PC graphics, right where Crytek left off.

Also yes money talks, and this is a common problem with games, while they are Art, they are also a big business, that's one of the paradoxes. They need to make some cash back on this big invesment before the game comes out. So Sony probably threw them some cash for the timed exclusive. Which over all makes sense. The 360 already has Gears of war out, and is favored for both, MW3, and Skyrim. So getting some extra sales on the PS3 with this move is a easy.

PC players in the mean time are are hopefully having their brains melted playing with those BIG maps, with full vehicle counts, and oh you know those 40 other players, at 60+ if you got the right system for your settings.

The game comes with 9 maps, 5 games modes, and frigging co-op and single player. I think we can wait a bit after release before we absolutley need a few more maps.

Think we have to blame EA here. But it should be: Back to karkand to be released in Sweden first

COD1:UO was one of my fav. games and after it went to consoles it died(for me). So ofcourse I worry about Dice going that way, because they will die to if they do. I worry because first it's this pack and just one week, than it's another pack and it's 1 month, than another pack and it's 1 year. Look at oblivion and how long PS3 waited to get it's expansion, or how BF1943 never went to PC. Imagine if they create a DLC map pack and never release it on PC. I have every right to worry, because Battlefield is my fav series now, and I'd hate to watch it be destroyed so xbots can play it.

I´ll give it three months before we start hearing whining about boring maps and the request for new ones. I think that was how long it was for BC2.

Also this could just as well be EA trying to catch some PS3-players. The pre-order figures and their analyzing people might think there are still people deciding if they want to get it or not. And BTK must be the best way to convince console players to get the game.

And seriously us PC players already have 64p maps and the jets and the graphics. Do we really care for a single map which is not even in the BF mindset?

but Dice hates us! Bear in mind stuff like this is between EA and Sony

and EA will be loving the £££

Hey,they said they would be released first to ps3 but probably they where comparing it to the other console, the xbox360, they did not mention it would be released on the pc later, maybe they where already taking for granted that the pc would have it at the same time since it's lead platform. Or maybe they did and i did not notice, who knows
