Yet again, NHL 12 from EA Sports, is off to a damn impressive start. In just one week of its release, the game's sales are up 19% over last year's installment after the same span of time.
The annual sports series "had its biggest launch week in franchise history with more than $27 million (USD) generated at retail worldwide." In the first week, over 451,000 units were sold at retail worldwide, fans logged over 6.9 million online games last week alone, an average of 86 total hours of online gameplay were played each day last week, and NHL 12 has already earned 17 reviews in the 90+ range. Those are some very impressive figures there.
EA Sports has also announced that they're bringing the NHL series to Facebook with NHL Superstars, a free to play social game. The company already has a proven track record with the popularity of Madden NFL Superstars, a social game that recently started its second season on the social network giant.
NHL Superstars will allow gamers to build and manage their "ultimate team of professional hockey players. With dynamic and accessible gameplay, fans can compete head-to-head in games against their Facebook friends from around the world." According to this press release, Superstars will be available in early October.
