Modern Warfare 3 to Make Use of Steamworks

Valve has sent out a press release today stating that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will make use of Steam and full Steamworks integration. This means that all PC gamers will have to use Steam when playing MW3.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is slated for worldwide release on November 8 at retailers across the globe and via Steam. Those who pre-purchase the game will be able to start playing immediately upon its release on Steam. Published by Activision Publishing, Inc., Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is being developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games.

The PC version of the product will be powered with Steamworks for both the digital and tangible versions of the game and, as with all Steamworks titles, offline play will also be supported along with Auto-Updating, Achievements, and more. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will also support dedicated servers on day 1.

Modern Warfare 3, as noted, is slated to be released on November 8th.

Yeah, but this is special because Battlefield is not on Steam. I see it as a thumb in the eye because of that. For them to announce the obvious, when it was announced a few weeks ago that Steam pre-orders were available for the game then they mention this at the height of the Origin privacy issue and the "not on steam" scandal.

Of course, pre-ordering now doesnt mean it was a steam only thing, so it may not mean anything at all.

Also I wanted to say, "WHAT??!!?! A video game that requires me to run another program on my computer, especially one that advertises to me and records my information? This is invasion of privacy and not right!. Next thing you know Microsoft will be doing this along with Bethesda."
