    Teen Kills Great-Grandmother Over Videogames

A 15-year old will stand trial as an adult after he was arrested Monday for murdering his great-grandmother with a sword. Authorities say the teen severely wounded his grandmother and fatally wounded his great-grandmother after he was told to stop playing Halo.

The 77-year-old great-grandmother was fatally stabbed, deputies said. They said the grandmother, believed to be in her 50s, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 14-year-old was barricaded inside the home for a while, but Douglas County sheriff’s Maj. Tommy Wheeler said he has since been placed in the custody of authorities.

Deputies said they arrived to the home shortly after 5 p.m. and found the teen standing in the doorway with a sword and a pellet rifle. They said the grandmother was barricaded in a room.

The teen shot at police several times with his pellet rifle, hitting the windows of a patrol car, deputies said. They said a 10-15 minute standoff ensued in the yard. Deputies said they used a Taser to subdue the teen.

Authorities said they were called to the home twice before in recent months. Both times he was hospitalized for evaluation and released.

While some in the media will be quick to place the blame solely on videogames, it does appear that there were more deeply routed troubles going on there. For a child that was evaluated twice already in recent months, why did he still have immediate access to a 36 inch long sword? Why wasn't help sought sooner for the teen that was clearly troubled to begin with?

The question is, could violent video games make it worse?
I am not sure that violent videogames are a good thing for people with mental problems. And I am certain that real swords are a bad idea.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who first noticed that his great grand-mother was only 77 years old... are you kidding me...?<r></r>As sad as the story is, one can only imagine what the future holds for the young lad. His life is forever changed now, and because of Halo...? Sigh, another Halo related death, and I'm not making a joke here.

How do you have a standoff with a pellet gun and real guns?

I dont think the pellet gun worried them as much as the sword.

i think the issue is really that video games attract the retards who do this kind of thing.

Well thats it, the video game is just the trigger. If its not that, its whatever other hobby they would be doing that were taken away as punishment.

Maybe a kids mind under development, it does something to it, but we all know that kids grow up in some bad families and end up being very nice people that do great things, so I just dont believe that its the games.
