Article: Rumors: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in Q1 2012 (Updated)

The rumors are flying about Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The collection of rumors come from the ESEA News site itself, a collection of speculation and possible insider information. Here's the list generated so far.

    • Planned to be released Q1 2012
    • Focuses on 5v5 competition
    • Press release within 24 hours from VALVe
    • Plays on an updated source engine
    • Individual & Team rankings
    • New Guns added
    • New Grenades
    • Dust & Aztec major revamp
    • Spamming still viable
    • Ammo is free

    Updated rumor list:
    • "Air movement feels identical to CS: Source
    • Ladder movement feels the same as CS:S
    • Test servers are running tickrate33, so bunny hopping was inconsistent (presumably will be changed)
    • 1-shot kills with any weapon other than Desert Eagle currently too difficult to achieve; testers stressed that it needs to be tweaked
    • Flashes are similar to 1.6; Smoke grenades similar to CS:S"

With the ESEA saying on their Facebook that more news is forthcoming tomorrow (Friday), it should stand to reason that at least the rumor of Valve releasing a press release within 24 hours is true.

We'll have to wait and see.

Only 5 vs 5? Anyone thinking console port?

Or a more structured way to play tournament play. Instead of getting third-party scripts.

Possibly. I cant see them selling this as a full new game though. Not if they have basically upped the graphics a little and added a few more guns. Although saying that it happens every year with the CoD franchise :/Only 10 people in a server though for me is really limited, especially when most clans are double or triple the size of that.

Don't worry too much about the 5v5 thing. That's for competitive use if I'm understanding correctly. It's not from any sort of console port sense. Most e-sports matches for CS are 5v5. "Clan size" also has no bearing on CS as there are always added players for alternates, etc. Also keep in mind that TF2 was "created" for 12v12 gameplay and we saw how long that lasted for most servers.

I have played CS games where it was 16 vs 16 in competitive play and it was awesome. I just think 5vs5 is a little low, even if they just boosted it up to 6 or 8 it would be better.

Where the hell have you played actual competitions that were 16v16? Because so far as I know there's no major esports tournament that ever goes anywhere near that player count.

                        16 v 16 in counter strike?

In pubs I don't think I've ever played with more than 20 people in one game.

They aren't going to change 5v5, it's been that way for more than 10 years.

I used to play competitively all the time in the UK (be it quite a few years ago) and we would always have at least 10 on each side.

Then you probably didn't actually play "competitively."

If you went on #cssscrim or whatever its called and asked for "10 v 10, Open, de_normalmap" you would get laughed at.
