It is also still possible you can add it as a non-Steam game. It all depends on what EA/DICE do with Origin and Battlelog.

And they are talking with Valve to try and get the game on.

Depends on how EA implements BF3, if they do it like the Alpha it will be a huge pain in the hind.

To me, boycotting the game seems silly. It makes me think of boycotting it just because it wasn't sold at walmart, or something. I understand that people like having steam, but its not like steam will be deactivated while playing bf3. I'll just have both services open. If I want to play with some friends, I'll either get on Ventrilo or message them (on either service) to see if they'd like to play. I'll just have to alt-tab like the good ol' days to see if someone else messages me while I'm playing. Chances are, though, they'll already be playing bf3 with me because I just messaged them moments ago. :)

I see how people can be a little upset about not having their steam in-game overlay chat, but is that really enough to boycott an amazing game?

You will find out what is needed to be ran for BF3 during the Beta.

Didn't we agree that the other article was just wild speculation based on nothing but a statement from an uninformed EA supporter?

Some said that, but I wouldnt take that as an agreement.

I wouldnt say BF3 will never be on steam either.

Since this information came out around the same time and until then was not being commented on at all, negotiations must have broken down or a deadline passed forcing the decision and an announcement to be made.

It seems more official now that Battlefield 3 will NOT be available on Steam. EA Developer Seeson posted this in the forums:

EA offers games, including Battlefield 3, to all major digital download sites. In doing so, our goal is to not only reach the widest possible global audience with our games, but also to provide ongoing customer support, patches and great new content. We are intent on providing Battlefield 3 players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play the game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with consumers.

So basically EA is stating something in the new Steam policy is prohibiting EA from directly supporting its customers and so decided to not use Steam as a method for distributing not only Battlefield 3, but many other games that EA has already pulled from Steam. Still no comment coming from Steam or Valve about the situation.

As for the community; as a result, gamers are drawing lines in the sand and it seems you are either with Steam/Valve or Battlefied/EA and not caring is not an option as you get flamed from both sides. Talks of boycotts because of this are already starting along with threats of not purchasing Battlefield 3 until it is on Steam.

An article Zips posted earlier suggested that Battlefield 3 would be available later and that still may be the case if one of the two sides decides to change its own policies on the matter. Could Battlefield 3 be seen later on Steam? Nothing is impossible, but as of right now the answer is no.
