Re: Battlefield 3 Developers Trying to Bring Emotion to Single Player
How brilliant, what a genius.
"I don't care if the multiplayer is groundbreaking! Battlefield has never been about single player campaigns, and even if there's a chance it's the best one ever, I'm not buying it cause the previous battlefield didn't have one!"
That sums it up quite well.Comment

Re: Battlefield 3 Developers Trying to Bring Emotion to Single Player
Damn it, I knew I should've come back and read the comments sooner.
Mtrooper/Anarchy1: I'm already very well aware that DICE was responsible for the multiplayer portion of Medal of Honor (2010), while Danger Close worked on the singleplayer (not even on the same engine), and therefore the story as well. I wasn't implying that DICE was repeating history, though my wording certainly seemed that way. I was implying that DICE wasn't doing anything differently from what we've seen before; it's been there, done that.
CptainCrunch: That's a good point. If the consultant is allowed to do more than influence the story, then maybe there is something different here. I didn't know Infinity Ward used writers with military experience for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I knew they had military consultants, but not with writing experience. Strange, I found the storyline rather forgettable (save for Gaz, because he is one cheeky b******), but that's just me.Comment

Re: Battlefield 3 Developers Trying to Bring Emotion to Single Player
Call of Duty have pseudo-realistic stories but they're ridiculous on many points, even the first MW1 was meh. I think Dice will much more closer to the truth simply because they're reasonnable but I have a bad feeling with Paris with no EU army near it and things like that. MoH story wasn't interesting at all, killing waves of Talibans how nice...Comment

Re: Battlefield 3 Developers Trying to Bring Emotion to Single Player
Well, the thing is that a story is only as good as what you allow to forgive. I thought the MW2 story was pretty good, but it had a lot of holes in it, like the airport scene with no security cameras and the main guy not wearing a mask, and the Wolvering scene going in to save the higher up that ended up missing and no more mention of them.
If you knit pick all that stuff, then the story is going to fall flat no matter what. If you enjoy it for what it is and accept that some things could happen, then it could be a pretty good story like MW1.
In any event, military stories are hard to produce in an FPS video game and to get to know the characters can be tough. If that doesnt happen you dont really have anything keeping you in the game.

Yeah, minus the major plot holes, the MW2 storyline was good. I'm not going to buy MW3, but I will read up on how the story ends, because I am that interested. I liked the Black Ops one more. I don't care that neither were realistic, they were entertaining, and that's what they should be.Battlelog/Origin ID - Hurricane043Comment

Re: Battlefield 3 Developers Trying to Bring Emotion to Single Player
MW2 was horrible, on many aspects, basically I have to forgive everything to appreciate it. Even a teenager could have written a better story. Russia (not the Soviet Union) invading the US is almost an automatic facepalm. I prefer the fictionnal stories like OFP/Arma (very classic, US forces sent for peacekeeping in a small country because of ethnics/politicals tensions) over some wacky WW3 scenario.Comment

Right, you couldnt get over those facts so the story sucked. The End.

well thats what I got. It was entertaining the first time round then I got a massive case of fridge logic and realised that it wasn't as great as I initially thought in retrospect. I just use it as a bitching point on other forums unlike this one that still have a strong userbase that still falls to infinity wards "Charms"Originally posted by CptainCrunchRight, you couldnt get over those facts so the story sucked. Well sure, but that happens with a lot of movies. Thats why I like watching HISHE on youtube because its like, "Yeah, why didnt they just do that?" The movie was great at the time, but now its bad.
Like Predator. They find out the awesome alien killed armed people. Did they put down the weapons and run? Heck no, they had to kill it of course.
Aliens. Hey, lets leave them alone on a planet.
Any horror move. Lets split up.
Zombies. Yeah, I got bit, but I will hide that fact and I am sure I will be OK.
Matrix. A million different things.
Gremlins - After midnight, so when can I feed them again?
Rocky 1 - 12 - I will wear them down with my FACE!
I could go on, but I wanna play a game ;D

K16: I hated that part when gaz was killed. I could have punched my fist clear through the monitor in anger. One of the only times I've felt so attached to characters was COD4's SP.Comment
