Battlefield 3 On Steam! ... After Its Initial Release

Right now the "official" (and I use that term loosely) word is that Battlefield 3 will indeed appear on Steam! However, it will not be released on the platform until after its initial release on other platforms, including EA's own Origin.

This "confirmation" comes from an EA Account Representative speaking to a Redditor on the subject. Take this with a grain of salt.

There were no additional details on the subject, including the length of time after the release or reasons for the delay. This also means that there will more than likely be no pre-order bonuses for Steam users looking to pick up the game. The original release date for the game is still slated for October 25 on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Well thats a surprise (if they actually follow through). Though shame to ol' gamestop or whoever it was that arrogantly said "HA! battlefield 3 isn't going to be on steam! LOLOLOLOL"

To be fair, this should be taken with a grain of salt. It's coming from an EA rep and is subject to change or be a case of wrong information. But it does give Steam exclusive users some hope.

They are building a lot on a single statement from EA support, which isn't exactly known for their reliability. I would hardly call this official or even"official"
Also, I find it hard to believe that Steam would accept being degraded to a second-rate distributor with no pre-orders. IMHO it would make more sense for them to decline BF3 than to accept this.

Yeah, it appears to be an EA rep, so I'm not going to take what he says to have any ounce of truth behind it.

However, I have see a lot of mentions of the rumor that the game will appear on Steam after release. I don't know the original source, but I've read it on the alpha forums and the EA UK and US forums multiple times.

I'm glad that the fact of the game beeing or not beeing on steam does not affect me at all :aetsch:

The other downside to this, assuming it will be on Steam, is that since it is after release, it will not be the limited edition. So no Back to Karkand DLC for free or any other pre-order bonuses.

They need it to be Origin exclusive at the release to give Origin a boost.

im noticing a disturbing trend... people thinking that some EA chat support is the same thing as a rep from DICE.

some EA chat support told some guy that they are making BF2143 for next year and zhinto has already claimed it false.

We’ve been waiting patiently to get our hands on Battlefield 3, but look here what we’ve found. During a chat with EA’s representative, a fan asked whether there would be a sequel to Battlefield 2142. To our surprise, the representative responded and admitted that EA has already plans for it and that it might get released … Continue reading EA’s Representative confirms plans for Battlefield 2142’s sequel →

i actually would prefer non-steam version anyways.

i mean i'll be constantly launching the game and i don't want to wait for steam to load and log-in and wait to boot up the game (i don't like to have steam on all the time so i can free up memory).
without steam, all i have to do is launch the game and it will go there instantly.

I dont see the point of having a exclusive medium on release but then changing it after.maybe it affects Origins/EA stocks or something.

The more mediums you could get your product on the better i would think, i dont see their logic at all.

And if is true that you have to go through Origin, you would have to load the game through Steam, wait for that to load up (if it is closed), and then let it launch BF3 through Origin.

With AC:B, which I bought through Steam, I have to wait for Steam to load and then wait for it to launch the game launcher, which is some Ubisoft Uplay launcher. And then through that I have to select to play the game. It's really annoying. I want to press one button and the game loads, not press one button and then two programs load and log in and then the game loads.

Yes, I think the beta will answer that question about Origin and if its needed to run BF3. :eyebrows:

Most likely it will; and peopl eacting like ass hats because it won't be on steam and that "I dont want two programs running in" bla bla bla conveniently forget all games for windows on steam... install games for windows marketplace and you have to log in to steam, and then log in to xbox live so DUUUUUH.

And GFW is way worse than Origin, it's basically a second MSN messenger.
