Is this saying ANY video card with "DirectX 10 or 11 and 512 MB" is "RECOMMENDED"?
Yes, almost. Any card with those requirements AND runs that software driver set, which some older ones probably will not be able to.

So if you meet all that, then you should be good to go with the Alpha.

We dont know. The requirements are for the alpha, not final release.

Up until today I was running BC2 on a geforce 430GT 1GB ddr5; I coul dplay with most settings on low and medium textures; or high detail and low textures, no AA no AF no Vsync, no HBAO on direct eks 11 and get steady 24+ fps on 2GB of ram and a core2duo E8400 3.0Ghz

I changed today to a Radeon 6850 1 GB and I can run steady 60+ fps 1440*900 everything on high, HBAO, 8x AA 16x AF on dx 11 on full 32 player servrs, I am assuming that upgrading to a quad core Q8400 would improve my framerate even more, as BC2 likes multicores.

The 430GT could be argued to be the very minimum in processing power on dx11; and it can run the game and it is playable (doesn't look gorgeous, your definition ofplayable coul dbe different; it is not a slideshow however).
