    First Dishonored Details Emerge

The first details of Arkane Studios' and Bethesda Softworks' Dishonored have emerged, as expected, from the latest issue of Game Informer. The first batch of information is starting to hit the web through Game Informer itself and here is what is known so far about this stealth action adventure title.

    Who are you?
Players take on the role of Corvo, the Empress’ legendary bodyguard. As the game starts, Corvo is falsely imprisoned for her murder. What the corrupt Lord Regent behind the coup didn’t realize is that Corvo is legendary for a reason. He’s not only a skilled combatant accomplished in the art of not being seen, but Corvo has a suite of supernatural powers that combine with his natural talents and unusual gadgets to make him one of the most lethal men in the known world.

    Why should you care?
Even if you haven’t played them, you’ve undoubtedly heard of Thief and Deus Ex. One of the main minds behind those two games, Harvey Smith, is the co-creative director of Dishonored along with Raf Colantonio, the founder of developer Arkane Studios. The two share a vision of a game that gives players the power to be creative with their skills and tactics, and invites them to come up with interesting solutions to the obstacles in front of them. Arkane is known for its immersive first-person gaming (Arx Fatalis, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic), and the power of a talent-driven publisher in Bethesda (The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3) behind the team is promising.

Additionally, the game will include unique abilities that can combine "organically" to produce a desired result. GI cites the example of being able to "stop time and knock a bunch of stuff off a table in one direction then book it in another, so the guards search for you in the wrong place. Summon a swarm of rats to attack one guard, but possess one of the rats and escape in the chaos."

The world will change as a result of how much collateral damage you cause. This has a more subtle affect on the story than direct and apparent changes to the virtual game environment. Read more over at GI.com.

Talent behind fallout 3? if there was talent in Fallout 3 it definitely wasn't in writing or game balancing.

Sounds like another Thief style game. I will keep an eye (pun intended for those thief fans) on this one.

Re-read it. Bethesda is the publisher. Arkane is the developer.

My Obsidian/Black isle fanboyism comes out at the worst of times, and I havent even played through fallout 1 the whole way through (lost saves I think) and barely started fallout 2... Though I have finished the hell out of new Vegas.

Oh... Fallout 3 and Oblivion are fantastic titles. Sure, they have some bugs, but I've sunk hundreds of hours into them each. The same thing is happening with Fallout: New Vegas now. Sinking tons of time into it after a few mod additions. Still has issues but damn if they're not engaging games.

Gameplaywise I did love Fallout 3... just when I found how much of a canononical cock up it was in regards to the original canon, and me being a story purist in everything, even things that shouldn't apply to me. It also stems from the fact that many people who have not played/know the Fallout storyline often call Fallout New Vegas a shit 'Continuation' of fallout 3, despite being superior in writing, and even certain gameplay mechanics and balancing.

                Fallout 3 sure is a disgrace to Fallout 1 & 2
