Star Wars: The Old Republic is a "WoW Clone with Star Wars Character Skins"

Eurogamer and GameIndustry.biz brought back some hands-on impressions with the upcoming Bioware MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and were left "unimpressed."

"We got hands-on time with the game, and were largely unimpressed.

"Despite promises from EA/Bioware that the title represents a major step forward in MMO design, what we saw was essentially a World of Warcraft clone with Star Wars character skins and the BioWare RPG nice/nasty dialogue tree mechanism bolted on for non-player character conversations."

Ouch. They also went on to describe the visuals as being "competent, but hardly breathtaking." Double ouch.

With some rather grim news like this and the fact that SWTOR is now going to be digitally exclusive to EA's Origin, are you still as interested in picking up the MMO as you may have once been?

After seeing extended gameplay footage I came to a similar conclusion. I'll stick to my SWG.
"We're all very different people. We're not Watusi. We're not Spartans. We're Americans, with a capital 'A', huh? You know what that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We're the underdog. We're mutts! Here's proof: his nose is cold! But there's no animal that's more faithful, that's more loyal, more loveable than the mutt." -John Winger (Bill Murray) Stripes

Does anyone still play Star War Galaxies? I thought it was dead years ago?

To me it has one of the best space fighting and flying ever. I mean it's an RPG and many games that try to reproduce starwars space fights on purpose can't make it as good and customizable as swg. I have to say i love everything in that game, although sony could make something better for the game, like fixing some of the animation/damage problems, like when you use your lightsaber throw attack, the animation for throwing the lightsaber is still starting and the lightsaber hasn't even touched the enemy yet but you have already damaged him. Some aspects like these take away from the game, but still if it wasn't a monthly fee i would be playing it for sure.

Maybe one day they will stop copying WoW... They still have some time before the new Blizzard MMO come.
