Konami Wants to "Re-imagine" Metal Gear Solid

Not just content with releasing HD versions of Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, and Peace Walker, the Kojima Productions team wants to "re-imagine" Metal Gear Solid.

In speaking with Eurogamer, creative producer at Kojima Productions, Yoshikazu Matsuhana, said that they want to do far more with Metal Gear Solid than they're attempting to do with the other games in the series.

"Obviously, we wanted to include it and make it a complete collection. However, as you know, Metal Gear Solid 1 was for the PSone. It has a very, very low polygon count," he explained.

"While at the time the game was something new and refreshing, just bringing it as is into HD probably wouldn't have that much meaning to us. We're doing two and three with a certain work flow where the goal is to take that game, preserve it and introduce it to a new generation. We can't really take that approach with Metal Gear Solid 1 because it's very dated at this point."

"If we were going to do Metal Gear Solid 1 we'd want to take more time with it. Not just up-res the textures, not just make things look pretty and polished, but go back and tweak some of the gameplay, tweak the story to update things and do it properly. Not just a re-master but a re-imagining almost.

"We do want to do that sometime down the road but it will take more time. It's not something we're looking at doing right now."

The current HD versions of 2,3, and Peace Walker are almost identical ports of the older games but with HD textures applied and a few minor improvements here and there.

Why not redo the Gamecube version of MGS1 instead of the PSone version? The Gamecube version had updated textures like MGS2 and 3.

Because Twin Snakes was a joke compared to the PS1 version, any Metal Gear fan, well any true Metal Gear fan would know that.

Twin snakes was only good because it was a remake of the epic Metal Gear Solid, they did a good job with game play for twin snakes, but the game was flawed and flawed in an epic way because of crappy matrix style CGI cut scenes, a piss poor soundtrack and an emotionless re-cut of the script. People look at it and say owe pretty graphics, it must be good, ah nah!"?

Metal Gear Solid 1 for PSone was the elite of every single Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid game, Twin Snakes is nothing but a shadow of MGS.

I for one am happy to hear he wants to take more time on it, I've always like Hideo, looking forward to all of these releases, especially MGS1 remake.
