Fallout MMORPG in Danger as Interplay Faces Bankruptcy

With a net loss of over $1 million last year, revenues of just $1.38 million, and cash on hand at just about $3,000 the future of Interplay. Worst of all, the company is about $2.9 million in debt, leaving the future of the company and subsequently the Fallout MMO in jeopardy.

"If we do not receive sufficient financing or sufficient funds from our operations we may (i) liquidate assets, (ii) seek or be forced into bankruptcy and/or (iii) continue operations, but incur material harm to our business, operations or financial condition. These measures could have a material adverse effect on our ability to continue as a going concern," the company said.

In the SEC documents, the company also stated flat-out that it "may not be able to successfully develop a Fallout MMOG." It cited its ongoing legal battle over the Fallout license, which began in April 2009 when Bethesda opted to revoke the Fallout MMORPG rights just as Interplay had entered into a development deal on the project. The two publishers then sued each other, setting off a protracted legal battle.

The legal battle with Bethesda and the subsequent thread of bankruptcy means that Interplay may not be able to publish the Fallout MMO in development from Masthead Studios. However, if they can still publish it or if another publisher picks it up, then the game is slated for release in 2012.

Well if they made the correct choices in the early 2000's and actually MADE games they wouldn't be in this mess... and we Would have a better quality Fallout 3 (Im talking van buren here, not Bethesda's Fallout 3: Retconn untill OUR lore is right!)
